If you work as a nanny, your primary focus is the care and development of the children. We expect our nannies to be deeply invested in the children's growth, providing stability and bringing all their training and genuine care to the role every day. Responsibilities often include child-related household duties and meal preparation. Families rely on their nannies not only for daily care but also for creating a structured and engaging environment for their children.

Maternity Nurses

Specialising in newborn care, maternity nurses (also known as Newborn Care Specialists) often work on a short-term basis, supporting and guiding parents while providing comprehensive care for the baby. They typically live with the family for a few weeks or up to six months, helping with feeding schedules, sleep routines, and overall newborn care. Many maternity nurses have extensive experience as nannies before gaining maternity nursing qualifications.

Governesses

For families prioritising education, a governess with a teaching background can create a learning-friendly environment. This role combines childcare with academic guidance, ensuring children are not only safe and cared for but also encouraged in their studies. Governesses often manage school-related activities, tutoring, and working closely with teachers to support the child's educational development.

Household Managers & Family Assistants

Agency Requirements

To maintain the high standards families expect, our application process is selective. Candidates wishing to work with Holgate Nannies must meet the following requirements.

Experience: A minimum of three years of full-time childcare experience.
Certifications: A valid paediatric first aid certification.
Background Checks: A recent police check or on the DBS update system.
Legal Documentation: A passport or work permit for the country where you are seeking employment.
References: Three verbal and three written references from previous employers.
Additional Documentation: Social security number (BSN or NI), proof of education, and proof of address.

In addition to these requirements, we look for candidates with qualities such as warmth, adaptability, patience, and excellent communication skills. Families want nannies who are reliable, engaging, and proactive in their approach to childcare.

Every search length is different. The process usually takes between 3 - 12 weeks, depending on the availability of candidates, job description, job location, candidate's current notice period, the family’s and candidate’s availability for interviews and trials, and contract negotiations.
